Kwame Brenya is a thirty five year old writer who also performs in the form of spoken word and palm wine music. He studied Bsc. Materials Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi. He also completed a 4-year Bsc. Psychology programme at University of Ghana, Legon. He is an Akan who speaks and writes Asante Twi. Kwame Brenya’s stay at the palace gave him an opportunity to learn his language well at a time of its decline in the Ghanian education. He started teaching his classmates Asante Twi in primary school, stage 4.
He has a poem, OBIBINI (Afrikan) which was published in AKE 2020 Review. Kwame has also worked on the translation of five thousand (5000) proverbs for an Accra based I. T. company, MOBOBI. In addition, he has recorded over eight thousand (8000) sentences of proverbs, meanings and other works for the same MOBOBI business company. He has also translated short films and plays from English to Asante Twi. One of these is a short film called, MMERƐ written by Armatei Arma.
In his online presence, Kwame has a series of videos on social media (@KwameBrenya) which promote Afrikan culture. All performances are in Asante Twi. The videos have English subtitles that he creates himself. He also has two albums, AKƆM 1 and 2 which are available on most of the popular streaming platforms.
